While all the main leagues stopped for World Cup qualifiers (national team break), Italian Serie B could not care less and moved on with a spectacular and full-of-surprise 8th round.
Pretty much all the favorites, apart from Empoli that won 3-1 against Foggia at home, lost or drew.
An incredible loss at home for Perugia made the headlines as they lost to Pro Vercelli, well actually got humiliated 1-5. Other favorites like Frosinone and Carpi are still licking their wounds after the away losses at Novara and Venezia, with this last team being the constant surprise of the season.
The newly-acquired Gilardino (many Serie A games with both Ac Milan and Parma) was not enough for Spezia to avoid defeat in Cesena (1-0) as Cesena’s newly-appointed coach begins to bring in some points.
Regarding the high section of the table, it’s good to underline Cittadella’s nice win away in Pescara (1-2). The team from Veneto is proving to be tough to beat and even for the best teams, it will not be easy to win at “Tombolato” (their stadium). Also, Cittadella is showing some serious away power with the wins in Empoli and, as just said, in Pescara.
Here is all the action:
The next round:
In the next round, with the major leagues going back into action, Italian Serie B proposes as a Big match Frosinone vs Palermo. The Sicilians (Palermo) will be able to count on their main player, their number one forward Nestorovski (he played with his national team, Macedonia). Both teams haven’t been brilliant lately and they both need 3 points to stay close to current leaders Empoli.
Two Other matches that are worth to follow are Parma – Pescara and Cittadella – Cremonese, which should both be very close.
One thing is clear: with only 7 points between Empoli (the leaders) and Cesena (last in the table), it is not easily to predict outcomes on this league’s games.
The leaders, Empoli, faces Entella and we should expect a match rich of goals. We see a possible “under” in Ascoli – Venezia, while Perugia and Novara are two chances of away wins, respectively at Foggia and Brescia.
To conclude, we mention the derby Avellino – Salernitana (both teams are from Campania), with Avellino a slight favorite.
As usual we are looking forward to a Saturday afternoon full of passion!
Till next time with Serie B soccer.
