Round 17 of the Championship (England’s second level league) saw only 3 teams winning at home: Cardiff and Birmingham (that defeated Brentford and Nottingham Forest) and Leeds, which defeated an in-form Middlesbrough that was running a 3-game winning streak: good win for the Whites that manage to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.
3 teams won at home and 3 teams won away from home: Aston Villa continues its unstoppable run on the road (4 positive results in the last 5 games) and with two goals by Adomah takes QPR’s home.
With a clear 0-2, the Wolverhampton Wanderers get the win and keep the lead in the league, sending Reading to 19th place in the standings. Reading appears way too inconsistent this season to target a higher and safer position in the table.
The Match of the week was without a doubt Friday Night’s round opener between Burton and Sheffield, ended with the score of 1-3: after an incredibly dominating performance the newly promoted Sheffield keeps astonishing and manages to stay within 2 points of the first position: time will tell us how long they will be able to last, especially physically and mentally, but given that winning helps you win more, they can even be a long-term surprise.
Today and Tomorrow (21st and 22nd of November) is already time for round 18 and as usual, we have quite a number of interesting matches: Boston hosts Reading, which will be a very delicate match for the lower part of the table. The same applies to Hull City that travels to Millwall, to play at a very tough “The Den”.
Sheffield United host Fulham at home, Fulham has been performing well and Sheffield could take advantage of this round to put some extra points between themselves and Cardiff, which plays an in-form Barnsley on the road.
The last match of the round is Wolverhampton – Leeds, where the home side is a clear favorite being the team with the best home record and with Leeds having lost 4 games of the last 5 when playing away.
